About the Three Year Integrated Course
Introduction
This is a long standing course of learning, developed over the years for the requirements of future GP's in this area, which we are now happy to be able to offer as a three year plan.
The idea is that the hospital suitable component of the learning will take place on Wednesday afternoons and will be repeated annually, and the component most suitable for General Practice will eventually only be on Wednesday mornings. As we have a cross over 2 years there will be some mixing of the hospital and GP groups to start with, so everyone will be able to participate.
The learning is in modules and doctors will have to ensure in the hospital part of the training that they evenly spread the attendance. As the course is run over 30 days ,not in holiday time, this will need an average participation of 15 sessions annually or just over once monthly. It will be most helpful if the modules are attended together and not split into year I and 2 to aid continuity of learning and the hospital consultants will need to be consulted regarding any commitment undertaken.
Each module will have clear aims and objectives and often preparation or home work, to reinforce the learning, so as not to waste time going over factual learning best done from books or the internet. It is very important to prepare this work as otherwise the student will be unable to benefit fully from the group experience on the day.
The ethos of the learning is that of participation and facilitation rather than lecture format. There is a lot of group work and presentation work enveloped in the learning as well as video role play and case discussion. Most of the facilitation is by the course organisers unless stated otherwise on the module explanation.
The course organisers will expect the students to keep a learning portfolio over the three years.
